In the United States and Western Europe for more than half of the production of tetrahydrofuran, followed by the production of γ-butanolactone and polybutylene terephthalate, the latter is a rapidly developing engineering plastics; 1, 4-butanediol is used as a chain extender and polyester raw material for the production of polyurethane elastomers and soft polyurethane foam plastics; Esters of 1, 4-butanediol are good plasticizers for cellulose, polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylates and polyesters. 1, 4-butanediol has good hygroscopic flexibility, can be used as gelatin softener and water absorbent, cellophane and other non-paper treatment agent. Can also be prepared N-methylpyrrolidone, N-vinyl pyrrolidone and other pyrrolidone derivatives, also used in the preparation of vitamin B6, pesticides, herbicides and a variety of process solvents, plasticizers, lubricants, humidifiers, softness, adhesives and electroplating industry brightener.
