1. Indoles are colorless flake crystals with strong fecal odor. Soluble in hot water, benzene and petroleum, soluble in ethanol and Ulva. Can volatilize with steam, put in air or see light red, and resinize. It is mainly used as raw material for spices, dyes, amino acids and pesticides.
2. Indole itself is a kind of fragrance, often used in jasmine, lilac, lotus, orchid and other household flavor formulations, the dosage is generally a few thousandths.
3. Some of the indole derivatives are dyes, auxin and pharmaceuticals. In the dye industry, can be used for the synthesis of sulfide dyes, indigo blue dyes, but also can replace aniline synthesis of 1, 3, 5-trimethyldisubindoles.
